Wally Brown was born with racing in his blood!

Walter Brown Sr. (in the car)
Walter Brown Jr. & Walter Brown III

Wally's Grandfather began the family's racing history way back
in the mid 1940's
when the Claremont Race Track opened.

Walt Jr. started racing at age 16
when his father signed for him to race.

While working at a machine shop days,
Walt devoted his nights & week-ends to building custom engines.

Brownie's Speed Shop
began at the Brown home in Claremont in 1972 and grew there until 1985
with Rachel holding down the fort
when Walt was at the machine shop.

In 1985, after purchasing an existing
auto parts store and building a new store they relocated to its' current location
on Rt 4 in Enfield, NH.

He raced for 4o years and loved the dirt tracks!
The racing passion was felt by the entire family:

Wife, Rachel (below), raced the ladies
powder puff races, winning many
1st place trophys with Walt's stock cars.

Even Daughter, Diane "hill climbed"
a Mazda RX-7, also getting
"Rookie of the Year."

In 1979 Son, Wally got
"Rookie of the Year" in a Barracuda.

The race cars took on many shapes and sizes throughout the years.
Walt built a fancy race car with rolled & pleated interior
and a convertible top with steel under the canvas

In 1975, Walt won the "Triple Crown" with this car!

Walt enjoyed collecting antique & classic street cars as well as street rods.
This 1931 Model A Street Rod
(below) is one he built from the ground up.
He built it with race car suspension, a fuel cell and put a
22R Toyota engine in it with an automatic transmission.

In 1994, Walt retired due to ill health, but always kept his passion for cars.
He and Rachel celebrated their "40th" wedding anniversary in 1997.
They drove their 1940 Ford convertible to the party.

He passed away July 2, 2004
leaving the legacy with his son, Walter Brown III.

Today, Wally & Janine run the store with employee, Toby
and with Rachel's ever-consistent help.
